Priority Projects for 2008-2009

Hope Africa's HIV/AIDS Campaign
Today, 42 million people are living with HIV/AIDS. Hope Africa is running a year round campaign to raise awareness of the disease and to raise money for vulnerable families who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.

How can you support the Appeal?

Organise a sponsored fast
Put yourself in somebody's shoes in Africa. Can you fast for 12/24 hours and put aside some money towards helping families in Africa?

Dress African
Why not organise a dress down day with a difference, dress African. If you are female come to work or school in a sarong and if you are a male wear a 'loud' shirt like Nelson Mandela and charge money – for example £1.

Change your shopping list
How about changing your weekly grocery shopping, think about how you can save some money this week. For example, if you usually buy Coca Cola or Pepsi swap to your supermarket's own brand of cola for a cheaper alternative. Whatever savings you make can go towards helping Hope Africa feed families in Africa.

Church campaign
Hold a collection at your church events during the year and support Hope Africa's HIV/AIDS Appeal.

1. Fundraising Events

BUPA Great North Run, Flora London Marathon, The New York Marathon...
If you have a place at one of these key events please consider raising sponsor money for Hope Africa to help families in Africa.

2. Do it yourself fundraising?

£5 is enough to pay for a mosquito net, helping protect people against malaria. £50 could pay for food for five families' basic food for one month. £2500 could pay for a borehole providing an entire village with clean and safe drinking water.
Your money makes a real impact because Hope Africa channels it directly to where it is needed, helping the most vulnerable families.
Your money will save lives and it is good to know that your help is impacting people's lives in Africa. So what are you waiting for? Do something, please!
Check out our Hope Africa's A-Z toolkit for ideas. It offers practical tips and ideas – you will find everything you need to organise and promote your fundraising event and sponsored activities throughout the year.
Why not set up your own fundraising page at the following link http://www.justgiving.com/charities. This is an exciting and effective way to raise as much money as possible for Hope Africa.

5. Major Donations

Big gifts, big difference
From individuals to churches and trusts – everyone needs to know that their donation is making the maximum impact.

A gift of thousands of pounds isn't possible for most of us. But when you put donations together to make a major gift – you can make a major difference.

6. Fundraising in schools

A fundraising event can be educational and fun, whilst helping raise vital funds for our work.
Along the way, young people have raised money to help some of the poorest families in the world, but also learned about how people live in other parts of the world, the challenges they face and how they try to overcome them.

How to get your school involved?
There are a variety of ways that your school can get involved in fundraising for Hope Africa:
You can pick an event of your choice and raise funds. If you are stuck for ideas check out our A-Z of fundraising ideas or contact us and we can give you some suggestions.

7. In memoriam donation

At a time of great sadness, you can choose to celebrate the life of a loved one by leaving a gift to Hope Africa in their memory.

8. A gift in your Will could bring hope to future generations

In many poor communities, parents have little to leave their children except, perhaps, memories of the time they have shared. By remembering Hope Africa in your Will, you can help bring an end to the life of poverty that is passed from one generation to the next.

If you could do one thing to make the world a better place, what would it be? Would you help poor communities have access to clean drinking water? Ensure that families don’t go hungry? Or give every child the chance to go to school? You might think that just a few people have the power to bring about such fundamental change. But we disagree.

By remembering Hope Africa in your Will, you can help make the world a better place for its poorest people.
If you want to find out more, you can request our information booklet.
Or if you have already left a gift to Hope Africa in your Will please let us know in writing. The details of your gift will be kept confidential.
Mr Dillon left a legacy to Hope Africa last year...
"Our granddad left a legacy to Hope Africa because he cared deeply about people in Africa. By leaving a gift in his Will his family will be helping those in need for years to come."
